Mp15-22 Pistol Review - Everyone, they did it! Smith & Wesson has brought back the M&P15-22 pistol, and this time it's been given a lot of new life. Previously, Smith & Wesson offered a version of the M&P15-22 pistol without a knee pad. This offering has unfortunately been discontinued, but in a world where AR15 platform pistols are such a popular item, how could they not be back, new and improved! Let's dive in!
As far as specs go, if you own or own a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 rifle, you'll find a fair amount of familiarity in this one. It has the same obvious controls, but the biggest differences are the length of the barrel and the associated bracket. The forend is also new for this rifle and has been shortened accordingly along with the barrel. Technical specifications are as follows:

The MSRP for the new Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol is $504. As far as .22LR semi-auto ammo goes, this seems pretty common and fair. I think it would be great for people looking for a more compact fun gun or even a practical version of a larger AR pistol. In fact, I can't think of many other brands that have something like this, and it's really exciting.

I was really excited about this because I really like the compact feel of an AR pistol and I like the quality of a .22 long rifle better. All that aside, what do you guys and gals think? Back in December, I had the opportunity to tell you about Smith & Wesson's new addition to the M&P15-22 firearms lineup, the M&P15-22 pistol. This was before the pistol was technically discontinued. The difference is that the old version did not have a pistol grip, and the new one has the SB Tactical SBA3 adjustable grip. I recently received my own M&P15-22 pistol and am happy to give all my thoughts on it. Let's go down the rabbit hole!
The Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol comes in a S & W foam-lined cardboard box. It comes with one 25 round magazine, manual, warranty information, camera flag and cable lock. Unfortunately, I lost the box, so I don't have a ready photo as usual, so apologies.
Note: The Truglo DUAL COLOR OPEN DOT SIGHT does not come with the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol. I turned it on after I bought the gun.

I say fair because it's a good performing gun (see the shooting section for details) and frankly, if you're not familiar with the M&P15-22 series, they're almost entirely polymer except for the very important parts. Shooting times were excellent with the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol. I say this because when it comes to any firearm designed to shoot .22, it's going to be relatively inconsistent. I put about 350 rounds through my Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol and had no breaks or malfunctions. This gun works flawlessly and I really enjoy using it. I've done every 22 torture tests I've ever reviewed and owned. I use a mix of a few grains and even some old nasty ammo to see if anything sticks with me.
A very interesting aspect of the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol is that the birdcage on the muzzle is easily removable and I attached my Dead Air Mask HD 22 silencer. That muffler thing is great, even if it's a little louder than you'd like. prevents high-velocity cartridges from being stuck at low velocities due to barrel length. I used two magazines of sonic ammo to see the difference, and while it was much quieter, I have to admit that in the current state of the world, I'm a bit frugal with subsonic ammo. If you decide how to shoot it, it's worth it! Still zero glitches.
If you are thinking of getting an AR style 22 and want something small and compact for training, practice, LARP, or just for fun, I would recommend this gun. The only potential downside I can see with it is the potential for it to break if handled roughly. I can't say that she looked tender to me, because she certainly wasn't. Heck, I wouldn't have bought it if I thought I could screw it up. I can see this thing cracking or breaking when bent or subjected to any extreme pressure.

The MSRP is pretty fair, as I said above, and it's in the same range as its gun counterpart if that's your style. Any extra money you save can be spent on ammo, optics, a sling, or even a suppressor. This is one purchase I do not regret and I hope others have as positive an experience as mine! I'm so glad they brought it back the way it was.
